Sabushimike Mamert

Mr. Sabushimike Mamert is an environmental human rights defender from
Burundi. He is President of the Association of Friends of Nature (AAN) and communication and advocacy officer with the Burundian Coalition of Human Rights Defenders. In these roles he appealed to the Minister of Water, Environment, Spatial Planning and Urban Development to Bujumbara about the illegal exploitation of public woodlands. He won an award as the Man of the Year by BONESHA FM for his efforts in protecting the environment of Burundi in 2011.

In 2014, he was delegated by the Forum for Reinforcement of the Civil Society to oversee the identification of the lands belonging to the state of Burundi in the Province of Makamba. He is member of the steering committee in-charge of advocacy and communication of the Burundian Forum of Civil Society in the Nile Basin (FCBN). He is a member of the Albertine Rift Conversation Society (ACROS), associate member of CIVICUS, Innovation 4 Change Hub in Africa and Nation Conferences of Dense and Humid Forest Ecosystems of Central Africa (CEDHAC).
