Better Climate Governance
Improving the Effectiveness of Climate Change Negotiations and other Mechanisms to support the World to meet the Paris Agreement Goal
The aim of this project is to improve the effectiveness of negotiations and other governance mechanisms in addressing climate change and fulfilling the goals of the Paris Agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This is crucial if we are to make stronger and faster progress towards limiting global temperature increases to 1.5-2°Celsius.
Countries need to increase ambition in line with the Paris Agreement. This can be aided by a conducive framework of formal and informal negotiation settings and practices. Key research findings point towards the importance of facilitation and other collaborative approaches in order to overcome disagreements among countries that result in slow or a lack of progress in formal and informal negotiations within the UNFCCC.
